|Abstract:||This Master's thesis presents a preliminary study to understand how to perform the modal analysis of a Francis hydraulic turbine. During the Tr-Francis project, it is planned to carry out deformation measurements and perform a modal analysis using strain gauges bonded to the turbine during its operation. It is then necessary to understand how to install the strain gauges on the runner. Experiments were conducted to understand why the strain gauges have a limited lifetime underwater. Different strain gauge technologies and different protection products have also been tested. It is also necessary to understand how to perform a modal analysis from strain gauge measurements. Sumali has developed a method to perform modal analysis using deformation measurement on a beam. Through this thesis, this method is extended to perform the modal analysis of a ring. The method is first developped and then validated using numerical simulations. The method is first proven mathematically and then using a numerical simulation. Finally, by exciting an instrumented ring of strain gauges with an impact hammer and then with a piezo-actuator, the functionality of the method is proven.|
