L'évolution de la production des voyelles du français chez des immigrants adultes hispanophones : une étude de cas
|Advisor:||Roy, Johanna-Pascale; De Koninck, Zita|
|Abstract:||This research falls within the domain of studies that document the acquisition process of the phonological system of a second language, in our case that of native Spanish-speaking learners of French in an immigration context. The purpose of our research was to conduct a case study documenting the acquisition of seven new French vowel sounds using contrasting common words such as vu and vous recorded at four intervals. A significant reorganization of the inventory of vowels generated by the transition from Spanish to French was observed: creation of a phonetic category for front rounded vowels, and appearance of new contrasts [e/ɛ], [o/ɔ] and [a/ɑ]. An improvement in regards to contrast production was observed for our participants, marked for one of them and slight for the other three.|
