Abstract: Physical activity and training are adopted as palliative treatment of several neuromuscular diseases. However, some diseases, including Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) are still insufficiently explored. The objective of this research is to evaluate the impact of training on physical fitness, functional capacity and the degree of spasticity in patients with ARSACS. Thirteen people aged from 17 to 45 years old volunteered. They followed an 8-week training program with physical activities, resistance training exercises and aerobic training. Comparing the results from the beginning to the end of the project, the analysis has shown a significant difference for 11 of the 13 assessments of physical fitness and functional capacity. A decline in upper limb ataxia and an improvement of the coordination was also noticed.
