Abstract: | The lack of coordination is an important issue in the agricultural sector, particularly in terms of horizontal coordination among producers. Indeed, in addition to the various market problems, the transmission of market signals is blurred by the important delay between the decision to produce, the action and the result. This fact implies that an institution is essential for the organization of agriculture. It is in this context that the cooperative movement has been developed to coordinate the agricultural sector against the market power of buyers. However, several internal problems in governance, capitalization and the preservation of cooperative identity have limited the role of cooperation in the coordination of agricultural sector. Therefore, considering these internal issues, and through analyzing a successful agri-food cooperative, a new cooperation model is developed to coordinate more efficiently a Canadian agricultural sector.
