Abstract: Children and adolescent sexual behavior problems (SBP) are a complex social and family problem. Empirical data and experience from clinical work demonstrate the importance of including parents in treatment addressing SBP. This qualitative study examines the following question: What are the factors influencing parents’ motivation to engage in treatment, following the disclosure of SBP by their child? Three parents participated in a semi-structured individual research interview. Transcripts of the interviews were analyzed following grounded theory guidelines. How the disclosure is dealt with, search for meaning, crisis management and dealing with emotions, extent of collateral damage and protection behaviors make parents plead for a professional’s help. However, therapeutic help was never offered to those parents. Recommendations are made regarding social policies, intervention program and future research. Key words: sexual behavior problems, treatment, parents, motivation to treatment, experience of parents
