Abstract: This research focuses on adolescents' adaptation when living with a parent who has mental illness. A first objective was to explore the positive and negative impacts of living with parental mental illness. A second objective was to examine their coping skills as well as their perception of the efficiency of theses coping skills. Qualitative method has been chosen to pursue these goals and relies on Lazarus and Folkman transactional stress theory. Five adolescents have been met in a semi-structured interview. They also filled a questionnaire on coping skills, the Kidcope. The themes were the social, scholar and familial functioning of these adolescents. They also discussed the parental mental illness, their perception of the impacts on their life and the learning they did through their experience.
