Density graded LMDPE foams produced under a temperature gradient : morphology and properties
|Abstract:||In this work, linear medium density polyethylene (LMDPE) and Expancel microbeads were used to produce density graded polymer foams using compression molding. By controlling independently the top and bottom plate temperatures in the mold, different temperatures and molding times were used to produce symmetric and asymmetric foams. The effect of blowing agent type and content were also studied to control the density profile and foam morphology (cell size and cell density) across thickness. Finally, the mechanical behavior in flexion and tension is reported and discussed in relation with foam morphology and structure.|
