Abstract: The meiosis of mammalian oocytes begins during fœtal life and stops at the dictyate stage. This stop would be maintained for severals years. LH surge in vivo or culturing oocytes in vitro allows spontaneous meiotic resumption. High intracellular levels of cAMP maintain meiotic arrest, characterized by the germinal vesicle (GV stage), while decreased levels induce meiotic resumption. This study was undertaken to assess the role of phosphodiesterase types 3 and 5’adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase (AMPK) in controlling meiotic resumption in both porcine cumulus-oocytes complexes (COC) and denuded oocytes (DO).
