Abstract: The intention of the research presented in this work is to develop a GIS model adapted to the dynamics and to the formal collaborative dimensions of the deliberative urban design process. The prototype developed is also meant to include the spatial representations that are created and exchanged during the process, and to propose a cartographic representation of the dynamics of this process. The conception and development of the GIS is based on two series of observations carried out during two urban design workshops that were held in the autumn and winter semesters 2005 at the Faculty of Architecture of Laval University. First of all, we introduce the main features of the problem. Then, we describe the research process in order to situate the thinking presented here. Following this we describe the research procedures. Finally, we provide the main results of this research.
