Conception des réseaux logistiques : mesure de fiabilité et planification d'accélérateurs
2000, Cavory, Guillaume, Frayret, Jean-Marc, D'Amours, Sophie
E-business in the Quebec forest products industry : perceptions, current uses and intentions to adopt
2005-08-01, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Karuranga, Égide, D'Amours, Sophie
This paper proposes an analysis of e-business, its perceptions, current uses, and the intentions of companies to adopt these practices in the Quebec forest products industry. We use the results of an exploratory survey of this industry carried out during spring 2002. In accordance with other surveys, it is shown that despite its location in a country where information technology (IT) adoption level is generally high, the Quebec forest products industry still lags behind other sectors. The e-business uses of the surveyed companies in the Quebec forest products industry value chain are explored by category; year of establishment, number of employees and annual revenue. Actors surveyed include sawmills, other value added building material manufacturers, furniture factories, and pulp and paper mills. Perceptions, currents uses, and intentions of adoption are described with a comparison to the same industry in North America. In particular, this paper demonstrates that this industry somewhat lacks a strategic vision concerning the exploitation of IT tools. Finally, this paper proposes a critical review of the limitations of our study and develops future research directions.
Coordination mechanism design in supply chains using multi-behaviour agents
2010-07-19, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Gaudreault, Jonathan, Forget, Pascal, D'Amours, Sophie
In today's industrial context, competitiveness is closely associated with supply chain performance. The ongoing development of integrated supply chains has increased the importance of supply chain management. This paper focuses on the design of coordination mechanisms that determine how partners interact to coordinate their production planning. We present a simulation tool to aid in the design of coordination mechanisms using multi-behaviour agents in an agent-based planning system where agents act as partners. The implementation of this solution is realised through the FORAC agent-based planning platform, which is dedicated to supply chain production planning and simulation for the lumber industry.
A distributed framework for collaborative supply network integration
2001, Cloutier, Louis, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Montreuil, Benoit, D'Amours, Sophie
This paper presents the latest developments of the Net Man generic framework for the design and operation of distributed manufacturing and supply networks. This framework enables the implementation of specific collaborative strategies, as well as the integration of distributed business processes into a seamless value creation process. This approach, described as a collaborative integration of the business-to-business (B-to-B) interactions, allows the distributed units of a network to exchange information in a coordinated manner and to collaboratively plan, control and manage day-to-day operations and contingencies in a dynamic environment.

Motivations for multi behavior agents in supply chain planning
2008-01-01, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Gaudreault, Jonathan, Forget, Pascal, D'Amours, Sophie
In today’ industrial context competitiveness is closely associated to supply chain performance. Coordiantion between production partners is essential in supply chains to deliver products on time to final clients. As perturbations occur all the time, production centers have to react quickly correct deviances and create new plans, while coordinating changes with partners. Agent-based technology provides a natural approach to model supply chain networks and describe specialized planning agents. To coordinate and optimize their production plan, agents ue specify the heuristic parameters a priori, at the time of their design and prior to their use. The solution proposed here is to give agents the opportunity to change these parameters, modifying their planning behaviors following the environmental conditions met. Using simulation, agents can identify optimal team behaviors for the supply chain in different situations. This paper explains the methodology followed to experiment multi-behavior agents and presents results from an application to the lumber supply chain.
Network approach to design and operate agile manufacturing systems
1999, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Montreuil, Benoit, D'Amours, Sophie, Venkatadri, Uday
This paper introduces a networked approach to design and operate agile manufacturing systems, able to plan, control and manage contingencies in a dynamic environment, characterized by supply, process and demand uncertainties. The aim of this paper is to present the NetMan generic concepts developed to support networked manufacturing. This approach is based on a distributed cooperative vision of manufacturing systems. We first present NetMan as a network organizational strategy by introducing the essence of NetMan organizational entities (NetMan center). Three typical networked manufacturing organizations from our application field are discussed in terms of distributed responsibility, physical and informational flows. We then present the NetMan cooperative relationships strategy, as a conceptual approach to implement operational networks. We present in this part a four-tiers relationship foundation to guide operations. Finally, we address the NetMan operational strategy. We show how this networked cooperative approach can be used to plan and control activities, and manage contingencies in a very close-to-reality manner. The NetMan experimental application is based on a real manufacturing case from a world class bus manufacturer.
Supply chain modelling frameworks for forest products industry : a systematic literature review
2014-02-01, Vahid, Saba, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Lehoux, Nadia, Santa-Eulalia, Luis-Antonio, D'Amours, Sophie, Venkatadri, U. $q (Uday)
Considering the economic importance of forest products industries in Canada, there has been an increasing interest in studying the operations and interactions of all the relevant entities involved in its supply chain (SC). The forest products industry has a set of specific SC characteristics to meet the needs of its final consumers. While a growing number of mathematical and simulation models are being presented for the SC in this sector, an integrated formal structure is evidently required for guiding the development of and evaluating these models. Therefore, in this research, we systematically review and identify existing frameworks for modelling SCs with the interest of highlighting the ones relevant to the forest products SCs. While we find no framework specific to the forest products industry, we identify a number of existing frameworks that could be customized to represent the industry's SC.
Supply chain planning in the pulp and paper industry
2005-02-08, Martel, Alain, Frayret, Jean-Marc, D'Amours, Sophie
In this paper we propose a generic planning model for the pulp and paper supply chain. We first review the different business units of the supply chain and the material flows. We then propose a supply chain and paper industry. We further extend the discussion by adressing the difficult problem of distributed planning, even in a hierarchically organized system. To conclude, we propose a multi-agent framework to simulate different configurations of supply chain and anticipate the impact of the different decision models used by the different business units of the supply chain.
Modeling agent-based simulations for supply chain planning : the FAMASS methodological framework
2010-11-22, Frayret, Jean-Marc, Santa-Eulalia, Luis-Antonio, D'Amours, Sophie
The agent paradigm is widely used to create supply chain simulation tools. Despite its attractiveness and extensive utilization in research, agent technology and its integration with distributed supply chain planning tools still represent an open field. In particular, there is a vacuum of research in the analysis phase of agent-based methodological frameworks. This phase represents the early modeling effort, considerably influencing the whole creation process and the resulting experiments. To contribute to fill this research gap, this paper presents a methodological framework called FAMASS (FORAC Architecture for Modeling Agent-based Simulation for Supply chain planning). It aims to provide a uniform representation of distributed Advanced Planning and Scheduling (d-APS) systems nsing agent technology to support simulation analysts. It aims to guide them in defining what are the functional requirements of possible simulation scenarios, as well as their related experimental definitions. It also guides the analysts to deploy the resulting analysis models into specification and design models. The FAMASS was tested through a proof-of-concept case in the forest products indnstry.
