Synchronized production-distribution planning in the pulp and paper industry
(Springer, 2005-01-01) Martel, Alain; Bouchriha, Hanen; D'Amours, Sophie; Rizk, Nafee
This chapter examines the short term production, transportation and inventory planning problems encountered in the fine-paper industry. After positioning the problems in the context of a general supply chain planning system for the pulp and paper industry, a comprehensive synchronized production-distribution model is gradually developed. First, a model for the dynamic lot-sizing of intermediate products on a single paper machine with a predetermined production cycle is proposed. The model also plans the production and inventory of finished products. Then, we consider the lot-sizing of intermediate products on multiple parallel paper machines with a predetermined production sequence. Finally, simultaneous production and distribution planning for a single mill multiple distribution centers network is studied by considering different transportation modes between the mill and its Distribution Centers (DCs).

Supply optimization for a pulp and paper mill network
(I4e2 Institute, 2005-05-16) Bouchriha, Hanen; Mammou, Mohamed Ali; D'Amours, Sophie; Hadj-Alouane, Atidel
A real case of procurement planning of wood fiber between a paper mill and fiber suppliers, e.g. sawmills, is modelled and validated. Several sourcing options are available to the paper mill (in-house sawmills, external sawmills, trading sawmills, and partners). The model optimizes the choice of suppliers, determines the supply option (contract or spot market) and decides the quantities to order for each period as well as the contractual annual volume guarantee

Lot sizing problem on a paper machine under a cyclic production approach
(Elsevier, 2005-12-19) Bouchriha, Hanen; Ouhimmou, Mustapha; D'Amours, Sophie
In this paper, we address the problem of defining the production campaigns on a paper machine. Each campaign is of a fixed duration (cycle time) and produces batches (lot sizes) of all or a set of the products. This paper presents a real case study discussing a specific lot sizing problem where a predetermined production sequence must be maintained. We propose a new approach where we compute first the cycle time by assuming constant demand, and then lot sizes are determined for each product within each cycle in order to satisfy demand. Finally, studying the context of a Canadian paper maker, we evaluate the impact of planning production under a cycling manner.

A "make or buy" decision model with economies of scale
(IEEE, 2002) Bouchriha, Hanen; D'Amours, Sophie; Ladet, Pierre
In this article, we present, using an example of a logistic chain, a mathematical model for "make or buy'' decision. In the first part of this paper, we propose a multiobjective mixed linear problem, considering linear costs. This model is solved through Goal Programming. In the second part of this paper, we extend the model by dealing with economies of scale and we propose an algorithm based on dichotomy analysis for the resolution of this extension.

Faire ou faire-faire dans un réseau logistique auto-organisé
(2003-01-01) Ounnar, Fouzia; Bouchriha, Hanen; D'Amours, Sophie; Pujo, Patrick; Ladet, Pierre
