    Tactical planning of reliable supply chain

    Global competition, rapid technological evolution, increasing complexity and demand volatility are creating a new and difficult competitive environment for manufacturing enterprise. In this environment, reliability, timely delivery, enhanced customer service and cost reduction are well acknowledge sources of competitive advantage. The literature on supply-chain briefly addresses the problem of designing reliable supply chain, which in today’s world is a key to success. This research presents a mixed integer-programming model used to design reliable make-to-order virtual supply chains evolving in highly dynamic environments. The model takes into account the reliability of all constituents of the supply chain and solves complex cost-time-reliability trade offs. An illustrative example is provided.
